Introduction to Rifle Handling

Course Description

Learn the basics for firing a carbine-type rifle including: safety precautions, different types of rifles (carbines), considerations for purchasing a rifle (carbine), handling a rifle, fundamentals of shooting and shooting positions. Classroom instruction will be followed by range time with a low 2:1 student to instructor ratio. A reliable, unloaded carbine type rifle of a caliber of .22 auto or above, but not larger than a .223 caliber must be brought or rented from Schoolcraft College at an additional cost. 40 rounds of ammunition needed. Requirement: All weapons will be inspected on the range. Bring required amount of factory ammunition in a factory box to the class. If using a pistol you will need one extra magazine. Bring ear and shatter resistant eye protection or rent from Schoolcraft College at an additional cost. Targets are included in the cost of the class. All students must sign a waiver. Appropriate attire is required: long sleeve shirt, full-length pants, baseball-style cap, and closed-toe shoes. All instructors have met the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) to provide firearm instruction to law enforcement officers and police academy recruits within the state of Michigan.
