Sarah Olson has led Schoolcraft College’s Department of Art and Design since 1999. She teaches Painting, Watercolor, Basic Drawing, Figure Drawing, Design and Art History courses.
Throughout her career Olson's paintings, drawings and mixed media assemblages have been featured in many venues including the University of Michigan's Slusser Gallery, a solo exhibition of pastels at the J. Walter Thompson Gallery, and an invitational exhibit at State Capitol Building of Michigan. In 2011, Schoolcraft College commissioned Olson to create a work commemorating its 50th anniversary. This work is named "The Heart Beats On" and is permanently installed outside the Kehrl Auditorium in the VisTaTech Building.
Professor Olson is a current member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association, and P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization. In 2005, she was awarded a Fulbright Grant to explore high school and college-level arts education programs within several provinces in China. Her experiences in China continue to provide creative inspiration for developing classroom content for her art students at Schoolcraft College.
