Firearms Training for Concealed Pistol License

Course Description

This class will fulfill the State of Michigan training requirements needed to apply for a Concealed Pistol License. The training will include: safe storage of a weapon, handling a pistol, knowledge of ammunition, fundamentals of pistol shooting and shooting positions, firearms laws including civil liability issues, avoiding criminal attack and controlling violent confrontations and laws that apply to carrying a concealed pistol in the State of Michigan. Classroom instruction will be followed by range time with a low 2:1 student to instructor ratio. 100 rounds of ammunition needed. Students must be 21 years of age or older. (Note: 2 students may share a firearm, subject to the conditions outlined in these instructions including being 21 years of age or older.) Daytime classes (if offered) have a half-hour lunch break not included in the CEU total. Requirement: The student must have a reliable, unloaded handgun of a caliber of .22 or above (but not larger than a .45 caliber). All firearms will be inspected at the Range as to safety and serviceability. No weapons with mechanical modifications are permitted. Firearms will be personally owned. Bring the required amount (100 rounds) of factory ammunition in a factory box to the class. If using a pistol, you will need one extra magazine. Bring ear and shatter resistant eye protection. Targets are included in the cost of the class. All students must sign a waiver. Appropriate attire is required: long sleeve shirt, full-length pants, baseball-style cap, and closed-toe shoes. Students must be able to demonstrate that they can physically operate and manipulate the firearm in order to attend range portion of class. If the requirements cannot be safely met, students may be asked to sit out range portion of class. All instructors have met the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) to provide firearm instruction to law enforcement officers and police academy recruits within the state of Michigan. NOTE: The PSTC Bookstore is no longer operational, so weapon rental and ammunition purchases are not available at this location.
