Precision Shooting for Handgun & Pistol

Course Description

Learn how to improve your shooting skills with a handgun. Focus will be on: smooth presentation, stance, grip, trigger control, precision, sight and shooting from relative shooting distances, stoppage clearing, loading and unloading. Classroom instruction will be followed by range time with a low 2:1 student to instructor ratio. 150 rounds of ammunition and an extra magazine needed. Requirement: The student must have a reliable, unloaded handgun of a caliber of .22 or above (but not larger than a .45 caliber). Firearm can be personal or borrowed from Schoolcraft College. All weapons will be inspected on the range. Bring required amount of factory ammunition in a factory box to the class. If using a pistol you will need one extra magazine. Bring ear and shatter resistant eye protection. Targets are included in the cost of the class. All students must sign a waiver. Appropriate attire is required: long sleeve shirt, full-length pants, baseball-style cap, and closed-toe shoes. Students must be able to physically operate a firearm to attend range portion of class. If requirement cannot be safely met, students may be asked to sit out range portion of class. All instructors have met the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) to provide firearm instruction to law enforcement officers and police academy recruits within the state of Michigan. Free firing range membership can be obtained upon completion of class. Prerequisite: CES 0999 Introduction to Handgun & Pistol Handling or valid Concealed Pistol License.
