Foundations of Swim Strokes for Students with Special Needs: Ages 5+

Course Description

This class is designed to for students who understand the basics of being in the water and want to expand on their swimming abilities. In order to take this class students must be able to swim by themselves for at least 10 yards doing front crawl (freestyle) and are able to go underwater without plugging their nose. Students will learn to improve their freestyle (front crawl) and will also be introduced to backstroke and breaststroke. Skills also learned include treading water for at least 30 seconds, retrieving an object from the bottom of the pool (4 ½ feet) proper kick and arm movement, breathing the correct stroke count, jumping into the deep end off the side or the diving board, and more. Note: Students must be able to enter and exit the pool unassisted.
