Academic Advising

All new students are required to meet with an academic advisor before registering for their first semester classes. Academic advisors play a vital role in student success, working with you to develop a plan for your time at Schoolcraft and beyond.

Academic advisors can help you understand how to complete a certificate or degree, create an education or transfer plan, examine career options and academic success strategies, discover other campus resources, and navigate your college experience.

Academic Advisors are primarily conducting advising appointments over the phone. Some on-campus appointments are available.

If you have not already sent your test scores and high school transcript to Schoolcraft, submit these documents before scheduling a meeting with an Academic Advisor:

  • Your test scores help determine which writing, reading, and math classes are best for you. Make sure Schoolcraft has your SAT or ACT test scores taken within the last 3 years. If you don’t have scores, or if your scores are older than 3 years, take the Schoolcraft placement test.
  • Make sure Schoolcraft has your high school transcripts. An unofficial copy of your high school transcript can be emailed to frontdesk@schoolcraft.edu for your advising appointment, but official copies must still be sent to the college.

After you’ve submitted your test scores and transcript, call 734-462-4429 to schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor.

Make the most of your advising appointment

  • Plan to talk about your career goals. What’s next for you after Schoolcraft? If you’re not sure, that’s okay too. Advisors will work with you to discover the path that’s best for you.
  • Consider your high school study strategies. What did and didn't work for you?
  • Prepare your questions in advance to be sure you get all the answers you need.
  • Remember you are not alone, and your academic advisor is here to help you through the education, graduation, and career process.
