The Schoolcraft team included Paul DiNicola (Gold), Zachary Wolffis (Gold), Zachary Bergquist (Silver), Zachary Chouinard (Gold), Jeffrey Skvarce (Bronze), and alumni Panjama Praphapantasak (Gold). Three Master Chef’s from the college’s Culinary Arts program- Jeff Gabriel, CMC, Joseph Decker, CMPC, and Kevin Gawronski, CMC- escorted the team.

Thaifex World of Food Asia is an international trade exhibition for food and beverages, food technology and retail and franchise in Asia. This year’s cooking competition was hosted by the World Association of Chef Societies and featured 1,300 competitors. The team from Schoolcraft College had the highest scores of the entire competition in the Hot Food Cooking category.

“This is an incredible feat based on the level of competition,” said Master Chef Shawn Loving, department chair of Schoolcraft College’s Culinary Arts program. “These awards and experiences for our culinary students are just another example of the standards of excellence we strive for at Schoolcraft College in all our programs.”

In addition to the competition, the culinary students also experienced a Thai cooking class in exchange for the college’s Master Chefs’ presentation to the Suan Dusit International Culinary School where Schoolcraft College alumni Panjama Praphapantasak is now an instructor.
