Gretchen Alaniz and Dillon Breen sworn in as Schoolcraft College trustees; Board of Trustees also elects officers for 2019-2020 at Jan. 23 meeting

LIVONIA, Mich. – Gretchen Alaniz and Dillon Breen were sworn in as trustees at the Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees meeting Jan. 23, and the board also elected its officers for 2019-2020. Both Alaniz and Breen were elected to the Board of Trustees by voters in the November 2018 elections.

Dillon E. Breen raises his right hand as he gets sworn in as a trusteeThis is the first term for Breen, who has been involved in local politics for more than a decade. He served on the Livonia Human Relations Commission from 2012-2018, including two-years as Chairperson from 2014-2016, and on the Livonia Local Officers Compensation Commission from 2015-2018. He previously worked for the Michigan State Senate as the District Director for Majority Floor Leader Mike Kowall, and at a consulting firm based in Novi. Breen is a 2019 Fellow in the Michigan Political Leadership Program (MPLP) at Michigan State University.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, with a minor in Geography from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, and an Associate of Arts degree from Schoolcraft College. He also holds an Environmental Analyst and a Land Resources Analyst Certificate from the Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies in Mancelona.

This is the second six-year term for Alaniz, who was previously the Secretary of the Board of Trustees and is now serving as the chair of the board’s IT Subcommittee.

Gretchen Alaniz raises her right hand as she gets sworn in as trusteeShe has worked in the Detroit metro area for the last 29 years with increasing responsibility in governance and compliance roles with internal audit organizations in both the utilities and manufacturing industries. She has been a Certified Information Systems Auditor since 1990. Alaniz currently works in the Internal Audit department as a Senior Manager for Adient, headquartered in Plymouth, and a leading supplier of automotive interiors. She also serves on the Board of Seedlings Braille Books for Children, and is involved with the Livonia Industrial Council. She is past president of the Tri-County Collie Rescue League of Michigan and has served on the Executive Board of the Livonia Chamber of Commerce.

Alaniz earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Central Michigan University with a focus in Management Information Systems.

The Board of Trustees also elected new officers for 2019-2020. The newly elected officers and other members of the board are:
