The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment.

While at Schoolcraft Daniel, of Plymouth, Michigan, majored in Environmental Studies and was responsible for spearheading the effort to restart the Environmentally Friendly Club and reviving the college’s celebration of Earth Day. “I am optimistic that the resurgence of the Environmentally Friendly Club and Earth Day Celebration is just the beginning of Schoolcraft’s renewed commitment to the environment.” Daniel says.

Active in the Schoolcraft Scholars Honor Program and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, one of Daniel’s favorite memories at Schoolcraft is of working with PTK preparing an Easter egg hunt for Detroit youth at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen.

“Over the past two years I have met so many amazing people,” Daniel says, “fellow students and faculty alike, who have made Schoolcraft the welcoming community that it is; they have inspired me to reach new heights in and out of the classroom.” Professors Mark Huston, Diane O’Connell and Michael Orick were particularly a big influence in his success, notes Daniel.

Daniel will continue his studies after graduation at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. We congratulate Daniel and look forward to see what the future holds for this proud Ocelot.
