Garden City, MI - The field of pharmacy technicians is expected to grow by 12% through 2026 (source: BLS.gov), requiring more technicians in all practice settings, including drug stores and hospitals. In anticipation of this growth, Schoolcraft College launched a pharmacy technician program in August 2018. Changes to educational requirements at the national level have prompted a redesign of this program.
Schoolcraft College now has the opportunity to make their program even more attractive to students who wish to enter the health care field as pharmacy technicians. Beginning in Fall 2019, the Schoolcraft College Pharmacy Technician Program will make it possible for students to become certified pharmacy technicians in just one semester (15 weeks). All courses are taught by licensed pharmacists with simulation lab experiences provided by certified pharmacy technicians.
Pharmacy Technician Program Director Joe Ringer said Schoolcraft is the only college where students can complete all coursework in a single semester and then take their certification exam at the campus. Once the exam is passed, the student may apply for their state license and begin working.
