Focus Series Returns January 28

The acclaimed Focus Series returns with for 2020 with the theme, “Language and Communication Around the Globe.” The first topic is “Why Racial and Social Justice Matters: Exploring the Intersection of Race, Social Justice and Transformation” and will be presented by Yusef Shakur at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, in Forum 530.

Skakur, a longstanding social activist, will use the phenomenon of code-switching to explore the intersection of race, social justice and transformation. He is well-versed in the language and syntax of Detroit as an author, educator and neighborhood organizer. Shakur serves as Co-Director of Programs with the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity & Inclusion and is an MSW (Master of Social Work) candidate at the University of Michigan School of Social Work.

The Focus Series is presented by the Schoolcraft College International Institute and supported by a grant from the Schoolcraft College Foundation.
