Next Noon Concert Features Jazz Trio

February 10, 2020

A jazz trio featuring three of the area’s top musicians highlights the next program in the Noon Concert Series, which is from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, in Kehrl Auditorium in the VisTaTech Center.

The trio will perform and discuss some of the most popular jazz standards written for movies by composers such as Henry Mancini, Johnny Mandel and David Raksin.

On piano will be Ellen Rowe, professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan. She is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music.

Playing bass will be Paul Keller, who leads several successful and busy jazz ensembles, including his 27-year-old, 15-piece big band The Paul Keller Orchestra.

On drums will be Sean Dobbins, recipient of many awards and accolades, including the “Woody Herman Jazz Award” for outstanding musicianship as well as the Louis Armstrong Scholarship.

The Noon Concert Series is sponsored by the Schoolcraft Liberal Arts Office and the Schoolcraft Music Department. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted at the door and will be used to fund student scholarships.
