The Anthropology Department will celebrate World Anthropology Day with an open house from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, in LA 140. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can learn more about the field of anthropology, which is the study of humans, past and present, through the following activities:
- Sampling food made from insects – a traditional, sustainable source of protein
- Examining fossil casts – including the chance to take a selfie with a life-size picture of Lucy, a prehuman fossil
- Handling stone tools
- Writing your name in hieroglyphics
- Exploring an archaeological dig
- Learning about religious symbols
- Walking in footprints dating back 3.6 million years
