New Volleyball Coach Brings New Attitude to Ocelots

A new coach who is familiar with some of the standout players in the area will be leading Schoolcraft College’s women’s volleyball team this season.

Jaison “Faisa” George, who has 13 years of coaching experience and is the Director of Training at Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy, one of the premier organizations of its type in the country, will look to get the Ocelots back on track after a tough 3-20 campaign in 2019.

“Coach Faisa brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion to our volleyball program,” said Athletic Director Cali Crawford. “His strong-minded attitude and the ability to create a foundation with high standards for this program is going to be the exact culture change we need to move our volleyball program forward.”

Faisa has experience coaching young children though high-school age, so this latest post at Schoolcraft is a natural progression in his career.

Increased conditioning and a tough-minded attitude are likely to be among top priorities.

“I believe first in being the hardest-working team on the court at all times,” he said. “That foundation will keep us in matches no matter what, but more importantly help as grow and learn faster.”

Schoolcraft had eight freshmen last season, so growing pains were understandable.

“My goal is for my student-athletes to constantly stay aggressive,” Faisa added. “No giving in to our opponents or cater to their style of play. I'd like to create a mentally tough atmosphere where our players will take on any situation put in front of them.”

Faisa describes himself as a defensive-oriented coach.

“Strong defense will keep us in games and also frustrate the other team and cause them to have more errors,” he said. “The game is still based off passing: Third contact means nothing without the first contact.”

He also intends to keep an eye out for future Ocelots.

“Being with Michigan Elite allows me to see more student-athletes and assess if they would be a fit for Schoolcraft,” he said. “And with my travel schedule during club season, I will be able to watch all clubs in the area and see athletes that could potentially come to Schoolcraft, especially ones who know me and my style.”

Crawford is excited about the future.

“Faisa understands the importance of recruiting and retaining academically sound student-athletes, who will fit our Schoolcraft College family,” she said. “The future looks bright for Schoolcraft College Volleyball!”
