Distance Learning Scholarship Fund adds More Funds to Help More Students

April 02, 2020

More scholarship money and more offerings make this a great time to enroll in Spring or Summer 2020 distance learning (online) courses at Schoolcraft College.

In response to the demand of the Distance Learning Scholarship Fund, which originally was $50,000, the Foundation has added $118,000 to this scholarship fund through the generosity of many donors. The goal of this new allocation is to help even more students, with awards of up to $250 per student available.

Since 2016, Schoolcraft College has increased the number of different distance learning course offerings by 25%. This includes 120 different distance learning courses that have met the International Quality Matters Course Design Standards. (Quality Matters is the global organization leading quality assurance in online and innovative digital teaching and learning environments.)

All distance learning courses are designed by a Schoolcraft College faculty member and an instructional designer.

“The Schoolcraft College Foundation continues to make it possible to offer students an outstanding opportunity to make progress on their educational goals during this time of crisis,” said Schoolcraft College Vice President Dr. Cheryl M. Hagen. “We’ve been able to transition nearly all of our traditional, lecture-type classes to a distance learning format with excellent levels of support for students who may be new to online learning.”

Advisors are available to assist, and online support is available for those who are new to distance learning. Further, these scholarships can help a variety of students: current students, returning adults, high school seniors keeping up with classes, college students seeking transferable courses, and more.

Many ways to help

Because of donations to the Schoolcraft College Foundation Greatest Needs Fund, the college, has been able to address urgent student and institutional needs as we continue to navigate the coronavirus pandemic. Besides the Distance Learning Scholarship Fund, the Foundation has funded:

  • Materials for students to be able to complete some lab classes online.
  • A Laptop Loan program for students to finish their courses online.

Donations to any of these funds are greatly appreciated and can be made to the Schoolcraft College Foundation.
