The student-led Schoolcraft Connection won five awards in the 2019 Michigan Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. The Connection competed in Division 3, which is represented by two-year college publications or newspapers publishing less than weekly. This division included several four-year university student publications, including the one from Ferris State University.
Members of the Montana Press Association reviewed 1,044 entries submitted by 20 Michigan college newspapers.
Leading the winners for Schoolcraft was Alex Zuccarini, who took first place in Editorial for his piece, “Anxiety is Awesome.” You can view the story here.
The other winners from Schoolcraft were:
- Second place for Non-Front Page Design: Kevin Ferguson, Evan Cerezo
- Third place for Best Writer: Chantele Fox
- Third place for Feature Photo: Mai Nakhala
- Honorable Mention, Editorial: Josiah Thomas
