Kehrl Award Winners for Science Announced

June 11, 2020

Winners of the Kehrl Academic Excellence Awards have been announced across different departments at Schoolcraft College. These awards are made possible by the generosity of an estate gift to the Schoolcraft College Foundation from Floyd and Marian Kehrl, who began supporting the college in 1964 – a year before the official dedication. Floyd Kehrl even provided the bells for the bell tower.

Schoolcraft College decided to establish these awards to honor their legacy. The family continues to support the Foundation.

This year’s winners in Science, each receiving $925, are:

  • Katherine Gonzalez
  • Klea Hoxhallari
  • Patrick Long

Each student also won the Clarence C. Jones Excellence in Science Award.

Gonzalez is majoring in Chemical Engineering and will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree. In her career, she wants to solve challenges ranging improving a product, reducing waste or developing entirely new processes.

Hoxhallari is majoring in Biomedical Engineering and pre-med. Her plans include medical school, becoming a neurosurgeon and helping to develop new medical equipment. She especially wants to make an impact IN her home country of Albania.

He intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree and possibly his master’s degree at University of Michigan-Dearborn.
