Eligible Schoolcraft Students can Attend Walsh for Free

Beginning in the winter 2020 semester, the upper-division, private institution began offering scholarships to community college graduates as part of its partnership with the Detroit Promise. 

Walsh College also has committed to being an unlimited partner to Detroit Promise, which means it will provide a tuition-free path to an unlimited number of Detroit Promise students who meet the general requirements.

To qualify for the transfer to Walsh College, Detroit Promise community college students must have 60 credits or an associate degree from a participating community college, including Schoolcraft College.

Students meeting these qualifications can apply to transfer to Walsh College to earn a bachelor’s degree in one of their business-focused majors.

As a reminder, the criteria that must be met to be eligible for the Detroit Promise Path (DPP) is as follows:

  • Attend any high school in the city of Detroit for at least two years and graduate from a Detroit high school in the spring of 2019 (must be a Detroit resident). This includes schools operated by Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) as well as self-governing, charter, private, alternative, home and parochial schools.
  • Successfully complete and submit the FAFSA by June 30, 2020.
  • Register for the Detroit Promise by June 30, 2020.
  • Be admitted to a participating college.
  • Participate in the mandatory student academic success activities as outlined by the participating colleges. This may include orientation sessions, study groups and/or classes on academic success.

Since 2013, the Detroit Regional Chamber has administered the Detroit Promise, which is funded by the Michigan Education Excellence Foundation and university partners. Through this funding, the program ensures that any Detroit-resident student graduating in the city of Detroit will have a tuition-free path to an associate, technical certificate or bachelor’s degree at participating community colleges and four-year universities.
