Schoolcraft College Athletics is preparing to return to the fields, courts and lanes in accordance with guidelines released on Monday, July 13, by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Athletic Director Cali Crawford is finalizing plans for a safe return to campus for student-athletes to practice and scrimmage. More details will be announced later. Please note that no spectators will be allowed at any games, practices or scrimmages during the 2020-21 season.
“With the safety and health of our student-athletes at the forefront, Schoolcraft College supports the NJCAA decision to move majority of competition to the Spring semester,” Crawford said. “We will continue to support our student-athletes academically and remain focused on achieving the ultimate goal of obtaining their degree from Schoolcraft College.”
Schoolcraft College has nine teams in six sports:
- Men’s and women’s soccer
- Men’s and women’s basketball
- Men’s and women’s bowling
- Women’s volleyball
- Baseball
- Softball
In general:
- Competition for Schoolcraft College’s fall sports will move to spring.
- Competition for Schoolcraft College’s winter sports will start later than usual.
- Competition for Schoolcraft College’s spring sports will start at normal times in 2021.
Here’s a sport-by-sport look at the NJCAA guidelines:
Men’s and women’s soccer
Fall practice and scrimmages
- Practice and scrimmages allowed Aug.15-Nov. 15, 2020.
- Allowed four scrimmage dates total for the year, with a maximum of two scrimmages allowed in the spring.
Spring championship season
- Practice can begin March 15, 2021.
- Matches can begin April 2, 2021.
- Maximum of 14 matches.
- Regular-season, region and district competition completed by May 24, 2021.
- National championships begin June 2, 2021.
Men’s and women’s basketball
Fall practice and scrimmages
- Practice and scrimmages allowed Sept. 15-Dec. 15, 2020.
- Allowed five scrimmage dates total for the year, with a maximum of two scrimmages allowed in the spring.
Spring championship season
- Practice can begin Jan. 11, 2021.
- Games can begin Jan. 22 2021.
- Maximum of 22 games.
- Regular-season, region and district competition completed by April 10 2021.
- National championships begin April 19, 2021.
Men’s and women’s bowling
Winter championship season
- Practice can begin Oct. 1, 2020.
- Matches can begin Oct. 30, 2020.
- Maximum of 22 regular-season competition dates.
- National championships March 4-6, 2021.
Women’s volleyball
Fall practice and scrimmages
- Practice and scrimmages allowed Aug. 15-Nov. 15, 2020
- Allowed five scrimmage dates total for the year, with a maximum of two scrimmages allowed in the spring.
Spring championship season
- Practice can begin Jan. 11, 2021.
- Matches can begin Jan. 29, 2021.
- Maximum of 21 competition dates.
- Regular-season, region and district competition completed by April 3, 2021

Baseball
Fall practice and scrimmages
- Practice and scrimmages allowed Sept. 5-Nov. 15, 2020
- Maximum 15 scrimmages against outside competition.
Spring championship season
- Practice can begin Jan. 10, 2021.
- Games can begin Jan. 22, 2021.
- Maximum of 56 games.
- Regular-season, region and district competition completed by May 23, 2021
- National championships (World Series) begin May 29, 2021
Softball
Fall practice and scrimmages
- Practice and scrimmages allowed Sept. 5-Nov. 15, 2020.
- Maximum seven scrimmage dates against outside competition.
Spring championship season
- Practice can begin Jan. 10, 2021
- Games can begin Jan. 22, 2021
- Maximum of 30 dates against outside competition.
- Regular-season, region and district competition completed by May 19, 2021.
- National championships begin May 27, 2021.
