Schoolcraft College’s Fitness Center is now open for members, students and faculty in accordance with Executive Order 176. The College’s fitness facilities will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 25% of capacity based on the fire marshal published code.
Face coverings must be worn at all times and health screening must be completed before coming into the Fitness Center. Signs with the appropriate QR code, which allows completing the health questionnaire through a smartphone with a camera, will be posted on the door of the Physical Education building and at the Fitness Center front desk.
If approved, you will see a green check mark in your email or text (whichever option you select), which you will need to show to the building monitor to gain entry.
Users also can access the health-screening questionnaire through computers across from the front desk.
Occupancy for various facilities
Here is the projected occupancy for each room or facility at 25%, including maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet:
PE 110 (main gym)
- Total: 418
- With yoga mats: 120
PE 120 (Fitness Center)
- Total: 52
- Similar to how restaurants are spacing out people at tables right now to maintain social distancing, the Fitness Center will make every other machine or piece of equipment available.
PE 140 (used for aerobics and similar activities)
- Total: 134
- With mats: 20
- No mats: 46
- With chairs (chair yoga): 27
PE 210 (yoga room)

Cleaning protocols
Participants are asked to wipe down equipment before and after exercising with disinfecting wipes that will be readily available throughout the facilities.
The College has advanced cleaning technology available, including:
- Clorox Total 360® System Electrostatic Sprayer that can cover 18,000 square feet per hour.
- Two GenEon fog/misters for large, open and hard-to-reach areas.
- These can clean/sanitize/disinfect large areas without direct surface contact.
- A state-of-the-art floor sanitizing machine for large areas that utilizes ultraviolet light (UV-C) to kill pathogens.
The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) equipment has been programmed to provide additional outside air to buildings, classrooms, offices and spaces. HVAC units are programmed to start up two hours before and two hours after occupancy to provide more fresh air.
Locker rooms, restrooms and amenities
Locker rooms and restrooms will be open and scheduled to be cleaned three times a day. Daily-use lockers will be available in the Fitness Center, with free towel service available as well. Drinking fountains will be turned on and water and pre-packaged snacks will be available for sale in the Fitness Center. The Ocelot Express Café is scheduled to reopen for the winter semester.
Employee memberships
Staff or faculty Fitness Center memberships can be reactivated by coming to the Fitness Center or calling 734-462-4348. New memberships can be purchased as well Payment options include payroll deduction, monthly bank drafts or pre-paid memberships. Faculty/Staff and Spouse memberships are $15 a month.
