Welcome to Blackboard, a key Schoolcraft Resource

September 21, 2020

Learning, of course, is the goal of any college experience. Part of that learning is understanding some terms that might be unfamiliar. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

As part of an occasional series, we’ll explain phrases, lingo or topics to add to your college vocabulary. We call it “Say What?” If there’s a topic you’d like to see covered, please send suggestions to communications@schoolcraft.edu.

Today we’ll dive into Blackboard, which connects Schoolcraft College faculty to their students, and students to classmates.

What is Blackboard?

Blackboard is Schoolcraft College’s learning management system. It allows our faculty to create and deliver the same type of engaging learning environment as they do face-to-face in an online environment. As a student, Blackboard allows you access to essential resources and tools from a distance - all in one location. These resources and tools include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lecture material and other learning objects
  • Course syllabus
  • Schedule
  • Assessments
  • Discussions
  • Video conferencing
  • Gradebook

In essence, Blackboard is a one-stop spot. Blackboard is especially helpful for busy students because it allows them the ability to access grades and class materials 24 hour a day, seven days a week.

What resources are available?

You can visit the main Blackboard Help page, which contains information about getting started, video tutorials, technical considerations and support. Also included is a list of FAQs. More than 20 topics are covered, so chances are any question you might have is easily answered. Just click on the question to get the answer.
