S.T.A.R.S. Scholarships now Available

November 11, 2020

Group of studentsStudents looking to develop as scholars and leaders are invited to the Scholars Taking off Academically & Rising to Success (S.T.A.R.S.) Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Leadership Program at Schoolcraft College.

This program, started last year, also prepares students as professionals entering a global and diverse workplace. Scholarships are available.

S.T.A.R.S. seeks to connect students to peers, resources, and opportunities to foster a sense of belonging and to enhance their overall college experience. Overall goals for the program include academic and personal enrichment, developing career and transfer-ready skills and building a social network through transformational learning experiences. The DEI element was added for the Fall 2020 semester.

A total of 15 students were part of the pilot program. Overall, the cohort of STARS had a student retention and completion rate of 87% for the first academic year and an average cumulative grade point average of 3.40.

“We’re excited to build upon a very promising beginning with this program,” said Melissa Schultz, Chief Student Enrollment Officer. “No matter the career, every student can benefit from being a part of S.T.A.R.S. because these skills and learnings are more important than ever today.
