The Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees selected Brett Gierak as its new Trustee during a special Board meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 10. Gierak fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Gretchen Alaniz in December. The appointment begins on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021, and continues through December 2022.
Gierak is a resident of Livonia and Schoolcraft College graduate. He has a passion for Schoolcraft College as well as diversity and equality in education. Gierak is a founding Board Member of the Clarenceville Education Foundation and he serves as the Chair of the Livonia Water and Sewer Board. He works with the Bricklayers Allied Craftworkers Local 2 as a Business Agent for Metro Detroit.
“I am honored to have been selected as the next Board of Trustee for Schoolcraft College,” Gierak said. “As an alumni of Schoolcraft College, I am fully aware of all the great characteristics of the College and it is my hope that I can play a role in keeping the Schoolcraft experience an amazing one.”
Chair Joan A. Gebhardt said, “It was somewhat difficult to orchestrate this trustee search, given the COVID restrictions. As the Board of Trustees, our aim was to find the best candidate who met our mission and vision for the College, yet being fair, open and transparent for our College community. I believe we were successful in doing just that, and know that we selected the best candidate in Brett Gierak.”
