Schoolcraft College President wins Prestigious Award

Dr. Glenn CernyDr. Glenn Cerny, Schoolcraft College president, has been named a 2021 Paragon President award winner by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society. Recipients were nominated for the award by the PTK students on their campus.

The award recognizes new college presidents for their outstanding support of student success. Dr. Cerny, who previously served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, was named president on July 1, 2020, and assumed his new duties on Aug. 1.

“I’m deeply appreciative of this honor,” Dr. Cerny said. “I especially want to thank our Phi Theta Kappa students, who achieved 5 Star status for our chapter, for the nomination. This award is a reflection of their outstanding work serving Schoolcraft College.”

Before coming to Schoolcraft College in 2010, Dr. Cerny worked for North Central Michigan College, Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Lansing Community College and the University of Michigan.

Dr. Cerny earned a BBA in Accounting and Finance from the University of Michigan, an MBA in Finance and Strategic Planning from Eastern Michigan University, and an Ed.D. in Community College Leadership from Ferris State University.

Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is two-fold: Recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students as well as provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa has a presence on almost 1,300 community college campuses in 11 nations. Further the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges in 1929.
