• Why is the College undergoing these projects?

  Health Sciences (HS) Center:

  • Additional square footage to enhance programming and the student experience.
  • New programming for the rapidly expanding health sciences field, including: Imaging, Ultrasound, and Surgical Technician Training.
  • Enhancement and update of health science technology.
  • Consolidation and centrally locating the health sciences programs.

  
  

  St. Joe's Mercy Elite Sports Center (ESC):

  • Additional courts for physical activities such as volleyball, pickle ball, and tennis; soccer training and fitness/rehabilitation space and a running track.
  • Expansion of both youth and adult continuing education programs.
  • Creation of a new Movement Science Program including a state-of-the-art fitness laboratory.
  • Housing the St. Joe’s Mercy Elite Physical Therapy and Sports Training programs.
  • New home of the Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy.

  
  

  Schoolcraft College Manufacturing and Engineering Center (MEC):

  • To more than double the current space while centralizing all manufacturing and engineering programs such as Welding, Advanced Manufacturing, Plastics, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electronics, and AutoCAD.

  
  

  IHA & St. Joe’s Livonia Medical Center:

  • Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, along with its physician group IHA (Integrated Healthcare Associates) is building a new 124,000 square-foot facility on the northeast corner of the main campus near I-275.
  • The facility will include primary, specialty and urgent care as well as imaging services.
  • There will also be a St. Joe’s outpatient surgical center consisting of 5 OR’s and 2 surgical procedure rooms.
  • The facility will support the College’s healthcare and health sciences programs with hands-on educational opportunities for students to prepare them for in-demand jobs in the growing health care industry.

• Why are these projects happening now?

  Continued financial constraints such as reduced State of Michigan funding along with keeping tuition rates low require the focus on new partnerships and revenue opportunities to fill this void.

• How are the projects being funded?

  By a combination of College funds, general obligation bond funds, private dollars, and State of Michigan funding (for the Health Sciences Center).

• What will be the economic impact to the community?

  Increase in local services, promoting community growth, including new jobs, additional educational opportunities for adult learning and expanded activities, and aligning with Michigan’s GoPro initiative (Trades jobs).

• What is the timeline/schedule for each project?
