Meet James Boyce, a 2016 graduate of Schoolcraft College. Boyce choose to come to Schoolcraft because he was not ready to face the investment of an undergraduate degree since he had no idea what field he wanted to enter. He knew that Schoolcraft would give him the opportunity to continue learning, while growing as an individual. At Schoolcraft Boyce said that he, “was able to take a multitude of classes across many different fields, taught by some of the best professors I have ever had.”
As he discovered areas that he enjoyed and excelled at, he we was able to find many opportunities to grow outside of the classroom. He became active in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, serving as an officer. He enjoyed helping other students while working as a Writing Fellow, a Math and Physics tutor, as well as an instructor’s assistant in the Peer Assisted Learning Program for one his favorite courses-Physics. These programs allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of the material he had fallen in love with while passing his knowledge and passion along to someone else.
Boyce is currently working as an electromagnetic compatibility engineer at ZF Group, in Farmington Hills, MI, while continuing his studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is majoring in electrical engineering. Boyce advises students to never say no to an opportunity. “Everything that I am doing right now started because someone presented me with and opportunity, and I said yes. In almost all cases, I had no clue what was coming. I could have easily said no, but looking back, I am sure glad that I didn’t.” James is proud to be an Ocelot.
